Poem about Nothing

Storage by Judith Shea at the Donald J Hall Sculpture Park

sometimes you have

nothing to give

to say

sometimes you are

consumed to live

in the void

I have been empty

and full simultaneously

a fullness that hurts

a fullness that distracts

a fullness that leads

back to empty

I want to walk it off

set bare feet to ground

dig in the earth

plant the discarded

lilies found in a trash heap

and ask a question--

Why would anyone

pull up a living thing

to bury a seed in its place?
